DAY 1: COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK | TREKKING | LIMPIOPUNGO LAGOON

We leave Quito early in the morning (7H00 AM) and take the south-bound high way, widely known as the Volcano Avenue, as this road takes you along the breathtaking volcanoes and spectacular landscapes of the Andes.

Before arriving at Cotopaxi National Park, we will enjoy the view of more than 8 volcanoes and we will cross the special highland ecosystems like the “páramo” and pinewoods, home to llamas and deer.

After this, you have two options to continue the adventure in Cotopaxi National Park:

  1. Horse Riding (2 hours)
  2. Trekking to Reguge (4800 mts)
     
 
After lunch, We will then head to the little town of Zumbahua, driving over one of the highest roads of Ecuador. Along the road, we will have spectacular views and observe the rural lifestyle of the Andes. From Zumbahua, we will continue to the Crater Lake of Quilotoa. Near the lake we will check in to a hotel and have a well deserved diner.

High possibilities of spotting Andean birds, herds of wild horses and herds of wild bravo cattle. This is a superb ride that allows riders with no experience and experienced riders to immerse on the local Chagra culture, enjoy the opportunity to ride “off road”, through ancient wild horse tracks, and on clear days, have an spectacular scenery of more than 12 volcanoes. Return to the hacienda.

DAY 2: QUILOTOA CRATER LAKE | TREKKING | KAYAK | INDIAN MARKET

We will start the day with a solid breakfast and then visit the Crater Lake Quilotoa (3900m), situated in the Cotopaxi Province, and part of the Los Iliniza Ecologic Reserve. We will walk down to the crater lake, which has a emerald green color that varies with the season and the light and which is about 240 meters deep.

After this walk we will drive in the direction of Baños oon Tungurahua Province, over the páramos of Zumbahua where we will visit one of the many indigenous communities of the region.

Here, we will get to know the famous Naif-style paintings that are painted on sheep skin “Tigua”. Something very special from the Ecuadorian Andes are the indigenous markets. Many indigenous communities in the highlands have a special plaza were trade in agricultural products and all sort of handicrafts is taking place. You will be able to find plenty of unique and handmade souvenirs to take home.

Depending on the day of your visit, we will take you either to the indigenous market of the villages of Zumbahua, Saquisilí, Pujilí or Chugchilan.

After the visit to the indigenous market, we will have lunch in one of the facilities along the road.

At arrival in Baños, we will check in to the hotel after which we will visit the centre of this tiny city. At the central plaza you will find the church of the Virgen of Agua Santa, with interesting paintings of the miracles of the Virgen. Furthermore we will be able so to see how Baños’ famous “Melochas”, a delicacy made of sugarcane, is made and you can make your pick from a great variety of souvenirs made of balsa wood or “tagua”.

In the night, we will go to the City’s Viewpoint where we will be able to observe the Tungurahua Volcano (5016m), which has become active since 2001. This volcano, which level of activity changes day by day, offers you a spectacular show of light, sounds and emotions.

After this, it is time to enjoy the nightlife of Baños, with its many high quality bars, clubs and restaurants, offering both national and international specialties. The tour does not include dinner, drinks or entrance fees.

DAY 3: BAÑOS DE AGUA SANTA | ADVENTURE TREK | WATERFALLS AVENUE | MONKEYS BEACH

After breakfast, we will leave “Puerta del Dorado”, as Baños is used to be called for its geographical position as entrance to the Ecuadorian Amazon region.

We will take the Waterfall Route which takes us along various waterfalls, starting with the “Salto del Agoyán” waterfall. Then, we will cross the valley by cable car to visit the “Manto de la Novia” waterfall after which we will continue with an excursion to the majestic “Pailón del Diablo” waterfall.

We will have lunch in Puyo, the capital of Pastaza, one of the Amazon provinces of Ecuador. After lunch we will continue north to Puerto Misahuallí, in the Napo Province. In this small village, we will visit the central park and the beach, which are inhabited by a famous group of free living monkeys.

After this, we will travel east to an special ecolodge surrounded by the jungle. Here, we will take time to relax and visit the private beach of the lodge for a refreshing dip in the river. Back in the lodge, you will enjoy a delicious dinner followed by an explanation of the tour by your the native guide that will take you along an adventure in the Amazon.

DAY 4: AMAZON EXPLORE | DISCOVER THE NAPO RIVER | WILDLIFE | CAIMAN SPOTTING

After breakfast, Continuing our canoe-trip we arrive to Arajuno River for visit the celebrated animal shelter, AmaZoonico, which is specialized in the rescue of wild animals for specie conservation and reintegration into the wild. In here we will observe a great variety of species such as: toucans, all kind of colourful parrots, various kinds of monkeys, jaguars, capybaras, caiman and much more!

Afterwards, we will enjoy a delicious lunch in the river shore, picnic style. We'll have the opportunity to swim in the river or just resting peacefully surrounded by a wonderful natural atmosphere.

We return to the Lodge by canoe.

Hike through the shadowed jungle canopy learning about the medical uses of various plants, our guide explain about the trap museum, is a very interesting exhibition of how they used to hunt for centuries. At night, after dinner, prepare your rain boots and flashlights for a night walking.

DAY 5: Jungle Trekking - Medicinals Plants - Monckey´s Beach

Breakfast before a trip into the jungle to reach the natural view point of Suchipakari Jungle Lodge. From this viewpoint it is possible to observe many species of flora and fauna. Photos can be taken beside the ´Ceibo´ tree, a gigantic Amazonian tree.

After a delicious Lunch, Visit to a local indigenous community. Here, we will help the community members in the preparation of typical drinks, like “chicha de yuca” and guayusa leaves tea. Besides that, the visitors will gain an insight in local traditions and the life in the community. Visit Monckey´s Beach on Misahualli Port. Return to Quito.

Light wool is ideal and a warm jacket is usually necessary in the highlands after the sunset. Shoes for walking, or good hiking boots, a thick sweater and a jacket. Remember that the higher you are, the colder the weather will be. Temperature Range: 5º-25ºC (41º-77ºF). For the Jungle: Lightweight & clothing with long sleeves/pants, swimwear, shorts, comfortable & supportive walking shoes, sandals, flashlight, rain gear, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellant, camera and extra batteries and not forget your passport.
